of preposterous wall posts

Sunday, January 31, 2010

woke up to gloriously sunny sunday morning with temperatures falling to –18 deg c. yes that freezing cold, the kind that shrivels you up so much that even the mundane task of stepping into the hall seems like an expedition to the polar ice caps. so i lay back, relax, sipping the left over bacardi from yesterday night. As the familiar throat burning sensation kicks in i log on to facebook. Wading through a sea of updates, feeds and notifications (mostly from ppl who have commented on the large amount of stuff i post on weekeends.guilty is charged) i come across my wtf  post of the day. dud1 writes on dude 2’s wall : “man you should seriously come and pickup your undies that you left hanging on our wall from yesterday nights halo day.”

This dud1 beats me. In this age of public display of callousness, this one takes the cake. What you post on someone’s wall is for all to see (unless specified) Wher’s the common sense, wher’s the net etiquette. This is the kind of guy who’ll neva switch off his cell phone in movie theatres. You Sire make me sick  @#$%^&

on a different note : so when i login to gmail directly from google talk desktop tried capturing the authorization key the application generated. one tough nut to crack, this.

Obsessive Apologetic Disorder

Thursday, January 28, 2010

how often do you run into someone who is over-apologetic ?  Normal apologetic I can understand like ‘dude i fantasize about your girlfriend, sorry about that’ but stuff like saying sorry, sorry over and over  like an employee who’s about to be fired for sexual harassment is too much to handle.

dude i was parched so I drank from your milk.sorry sorry so sorry. i will replenish it with my milk. again sorry for the trouble.

dude i am so sorry I forgot to knock the door before entering the restroom. it completely slipped my mind that your door bolt doesn’t work.sorry sorry so sorry for disturbing  you.

dude I am so sorry that I walked into your room when it was pitch dark and you had just dropped your undies to change into pajamas. sorry man. i should have turned on the light. i am so sorry.

and the whole sorry sorry so sorry thing would have been fine if he had kept it between us but instead he tails you around until you tell him that it is OK! that he walked into you when doing private stuff and all the people around are wondering what on earth happened that he is apologizing so much and I am not accepting his apology. Then he launches into a show and tell instead of dont ask dont tell, and you end up feeling more violated. FML.

Last Man Standing

Monday, January 25, 2010

He stood watching as the angry mob with flaming torches made its way towards him. He stood high above the barren plain and could see them coming from all sides. He was not perturbed. A breeze ruffled  his hair. He was reminded of a time when she used to fondle his tresses with such playful mirth that he never told her to stop even though it irritated him. It felt like a life time ago. Her smile, her talk, her walk and everything about her was so cute he mused and then there was the incident.

Over night his life had turned from a possible happily ever after to a worst nightmare coming true. He took a stand for a group he had never met, for a feeling he had never experienced. But he took a stand, for his conscience and education told him that it was wrong to discriminate against people. He was no savior or messiah just an ordinary man. There were the fanatics, friends who turned into foes at the flip of a coin. They couldn’t fathom the depth of his arguments. They just wanted to go with the flow. A few who saw sense in his words came. But they had their own agendas.

The lanes he passed everyday became too dangerous to roam. There were attacks verbal and physical. He contemplated giving up. But why he asked. Is it right to single out ? who makes these rules on what is right and what is wrong. The leaders, the society, the holy books ? He stood up for the neglected, the downtrodden and the shunned. No body understood and told him he was fighting a loosing battle with a possible bloody end. He stood alone. A bill was passed. Then the murders started. Free thinkers and supporters were disappearing over night. A witch hunt was on the loose. The upholders of the law didn't want to get involved with the mob. The media fanned the flames of fury further.

As he stood on the plane he could see their frightened faces. The air was thick with smoke from the torches. “Man fears what he doesn’t understand”, said he and laughed to himself. He lit up a cigarette. As the nicotine started kicking in his eyes started to blur and his mind began to sway. He had never been a violent person. Today was gonna be a first and the last. The mob was upon him now.He was surrounded on all sides. Shouting and abusing. They were waiting for him to make a move. He flicked the butt and took the plunge.

The Mob.

Saturday, January 23, 2010

so the roomies were watching this serial called ‘emotional attyachar’ on UTV bindass. On this show the participants subject their partners to a so called purity tests and if they come out clean the relationship survives else they breakup on tv, in effect increasing the trp ratings. So the contestants this time around were bobby darling and her boy friend. I’ve always hated these reality shows so the roomies force me to sit and watch. The moment bobby darling comes onto screen the whole room erupts into lol’s and abuses about LGBT’s. I for once am appalled at this sudden transformation in this mass of people who earlier were all hunk dory and talking about cricket and Veer. One guy starts off by how he hates gays. The second guy joins in chorus on  how gays should not/cannot exist in the ancient holy land of India and even suggests extremist measures to exterminate them (a poster child for those religious fanatics) a third guy chips in (quoting fictional experiences) on how if you sit next to gays you catch their gay-ness and how gays molest you just by sight, because that’s what gays do. The fourth guy says nature created man only to be attracted to females and males getting attracted to males is a violation of the basic laws of nature and reproduction. I tried to argue with the angry group saying each person is free to choose his partner and his own preferences, why should society have a problem. For too long have people suffered trying to fit into the image society has of/for them. I accuse them of being homophobes.

The angry mob (yes now even four enraged people seem like a mob to me) starts hurling abuses and snide remarks about stuff they can’t fathom. Some dude rattles off statistics on how the ratio of men to women is falling and now with this gay problem etc. One more guy starts off by saying gays are just people who though genetically wired correctly have sick ideas in their mind. One guy says because of the new found media hunger for gays (quoting rohit from big boss) he can’t have masti  with his guy friends (holding pinky fingers as they walk down the road leeching at women ?)as he used to do before, for the fear of being labeled gay.

I could sense the mob getting angrier by the minute as the topic prolonged and soon a stone  pelting exercise would start. [people fear what they don’t understand] After a heavy session of who can shout better and in how many languages all were tired and I left the scene. But the mob was saving the best for the last : “dude let him go. he doesn’t have a girl friend and he is always cheerful and he supports ‘them’, he must be gay.”   WTF.

Close-up of a cigarette

from the internet : Nicotine addiction is not the main problem in stopping smoking.  Your system usually gets rid of the nicotine with in a week , so why is it that people can give up smoking for few months and then take it up again?  The reason is simply that they have never overcome the Psychological habit of being a smoker.  The habit is lodged in the subconscious mind so that there is a constant desire for a cigarette.  It is the nagging desire that this habit creates which will gradually wear the you down, until in a moment of stress or weakness they give in and light that first cigarette. You can’t quit unless you hit rock bottom.
