Master Blaster !

Saturday, June 30, 2007

Sachin Tendulkar became the first man in cricket history to score 15 000 one-day international runs when he reached fifty against South Africa at Stormont on Friday.

Master Blaster ka koi jawab nahi... 387 matches ODI's...15,043 Runs... 41 centuries...Avg. of 44.24... 1608 fours... 161 sixes... can it get any better ! ! !

The ladala of the blue billion.

what's amiss here ?

did any one say a world cup ?

These records show him as a great batsman...

what is team spirit worth after all eh ?

To put it best in Velcro's very own words...

"... Sachin's pyrotechnics might entertain a billion people, but the fact remains..neither did India win a world cup because of his internationally acclaimed batting style nor did his captain ship talk about his sincerity towards the sport.. he might as well be the best batsman in the world but he's a pathetic team player.. The stats just talk about his record-o-mania and the tv's tells us why he is the richest sports person "

who are we to question the darling of the masses.. we are just mere arm-chair critics .

First..lemme take on ur comment on Sachin's inability to win a World Cup..Hmm..how many did he play..5..1992, 1996, 1999, 2003 and 2007 right...baring 1992(he was too young then)..1999(he was still sufferin from a sore back) and yeah...2007..he to some extent deserves to take a BIT of blame(along wid the whole team mind you). The other 2 have been absolutely stunning efforts...first 1996..he emerged the top run getter(523)..and the next highest in the team was Ajay Jadeja(178 runs)...even in the semi final(which india eventually lost)...He scored 65..and when he was out the score was 98-2(chasing a chasable 252).. what happened next...the indian team collapsed like a heap of cards...to 129 for 8.. DO U BLAME HIM FOR THAT...

2003...every one know what happened...673 runs..3 man of the match awards...he played a major role in guiding India all the way to the final..and what happened then...Zaheer khan, Javagal Srinath ,Asish Nehra and Harbhajan...every one failed wid the ball..allowing the aussies to pile up a recore score of 359-2.. it was virtually unchasable those days(cricket has changed much...since WC 2003 right)...out of despair did he go for that uncharacteristic pull shot off Mcgrath...and was out..DO U BLAME HIM FOR THAT...

Now comin to the allegations about his overall inability to win matches..
firstly...of the 41 centuries he scored...11 have been in a lost cause...the reasons for that to happen were...
1)Failure of the bowling attack while defending the big scores..aided by his centuries.
2)Failure of the other batsmen to suppliment his effort
3)and the ever confusing duckworth lewis..thats it...
check out if u want...

And yeah...his career hasnt been complete though...he hasnt been his usual self...when india is chasing...sould have improved on that aspect...
And when his captaincy came into.. picture...u r aware of the dirty politics that happen in Indian cricket now a days..dont u..the extensive media coverage has kinda exposed a lot of things...are u sure things like those dint happen then...when most of the players were older and more experienced that Sachin in 1996-97...they definitely should have happened..Its INDIAN CRICKET after all... and moreover..its not necessary for a great player to become a good captain...captaincy..or leadership quality in an inbuilt entity...and if Sachin lacks them...he is not at fault..He had to take up the captaincy only coz there was no better player then to fit in....Take the case of..say..Shane Warne, Glenn Mcgrath, Arvinda Desilva,Mutthaiah Muralitharan, Gary Kirsten, Jaques Kallis etc etc...none of them have been good captains(actually some of them dint captain at all)...that doesnt mean they are not great players...

What say my friend...

My dear Sid. a very socio-conscious blogger and my prodigal leftie friend, Puppy.

I love Sachin. Drooling over his batting style since I was a kid. All those records you mentioned, I wouldn't need to go through them in fact no Indian would. We are all acquainted how good a batsman he is.

Again, stats, records and Marathi sentiments apart...5 world cups?? Are you friggin kiddin me? Why are we even talking abt highest run getter and shortest player award? He'll remain in the history as the greatest batsman ever..

But the question here is, how have his records helped India? And if they did, why haven't they been consistent? If Sachin is the force that wins the matches for India, why hasn't the so called force win us even one WC?

Dude, compare Rahul and Sachin. Why isn't Rahul as rich as Sachin? Because his batting style was not appreciated by Don Bradman? Or because he defends the team and acts as a bloody wall and never lets the batting order fall? Rahul Dravid is the ultimate team player. He plays for the team. Doesn't give a friggin nut abt the records (although his number of half centuries drop your jaw).

Think of the team. Think of India. Not Sachin or wannabe Sachins ala Sehwag, Dhoni etc. His being in form or not being in form shouldn't affect the team's performance. He is gratuitous The team is not. This is not a movie to appreciate the lead actor only and his dance steps and his comedy and never care about its performance at the box office. This is cricket. Something that the whole world knows you with. We can't depend upon one record-crazy batsman to project us to the world.

P.S: Lets not even talk abt the OZs, the ultimate example for team play. I don't want to depress Indian cricket fans.

P.P.S: No offence to anyone. I personally adore Sachin for his style of batting and Sehwag also and of course Dhoni...for his...err...Hairstyle..

If cricket is religion,SACHIN is surely GOD !!!He is one gem of a sports personality...his tryst with the game and quest for runs drops my jaws...his strokes are elegance personified...magnificence spills in his drives...man..thr is nothing that u can ask for more wen u see him play that signature straight drive..its been 16 long years since he stepped into this arena...and still he is hungry for runs..his mere presence at the centre terrorizes the opponents...he is a man of inexplicable calibre..Have u ever saw him reacting harshly to comments of any sort against him???He always allows his bat do the talking..RAVI SHASTRI once said"the most important thing abt sachin is though he is this position, he is still rooted to the ground strongly.."and fpr ppl who doubt his team spirit--without him,thr is no cricket in INDIA..he was made to declare wen he was on 194*...and now the match at SHARJAH--whr he played the innings of his life(for sure)--neither could the reigning aussies nor the dust storm cud stop this MAN..it was his day..Does he deliver wen it is required?..Winning is always a term related to 11 players in a team..this is how it goes..If sachin fails,he bears the brunt..if he gets out,the rest of team collapses like a pack of dominoes....thr r many more things that cuts him away from the rest..dressing room behaviour, tactics on the field, advices to bowlers....finally,
NO SACHIN,NO CRICKET !!
